"When I started JL I worked hard to really feel what I wanted to do. I meditated and tried to understand what my true intuition was. I wanted to create a brand that had a full presence in contemporary fashion as well as the sports world. Seeking to move classic sports fashion to a 21st Century level, I chose to challenge and inspire golf and ski apparel to a new level; the choice of these two activities as a platform for my mission being a reflection of two of my keenest interests. At the same time, I also wanted to create a strong personal impression in contemporary fashion. As a result, in '97, I started with golf and fashion. I believe this approach was probably very odd to a lot of people."
